UNUM Brings Shame to Insurance Industry
Numerous claims made by individuals who have become unable to continue with their insured occupation by illness or disability have been left high and dry by UNUM.
UNUM, their adjusters, doctors, and investigators engage in intentional deceptions and outright lies to prejudice and deny the claims.
These tactics include advising clients courses of action which render their policy worthless. They even employ agents who spy on clients, invade their privacy, make nuisance phone calls and break into cars to gather evidence.
We advise UK members who have made a claim against UNUM to seriously consider requesting all information on file with UNUM. This can be done in writing and is subject to the UK Freedom of Information/Data Protection Acts
In 2004 I retired on the grounds of ill health as a member of the support staff from the Wiltshire Constabulary. At that time I had worked for 36 years non stop over 20 years with various Police Forces 5 in number and was I felt a truthful and loyal person. Unum declined my policy from the start, despite having 2 disability certificates from 2 Police Doctors from different Police Forces siting Cervical Spondylosis and copious medical evidence. It did not matter what I gave them they argued aginst me. In the end for no apparant reason a representative of Unum rang me at my home. In the prescence of a visitor to our home she accused me of all manner of non disclosure issues with my policy - ranging from 4 years of mental anxiety to blackouts etc. Non of this was true. At one point she became highly agressive and said Well it says so doesnt it in your medical records. My answer to that Unum is no it does not. I have had access to Unums notes and my medical records. I have gone through them with a fine tooth comb - dont forget Unum I worked for the Constabulary I am a fanatic for details. I have noticed they have even gone into years where there is no evidence of anything remotely wrong with my health and picked out words from another year and plonked them down as mental anxiety. They even had the nerve to put amongst their notes that a mental exclusion order would not be appropriate at this stage due to other non disclosures. This has been like red rag to a bull - bearing in mind shortly after this policy was declined, my elder and only sibling aged 70 years who had been well all of her life suddenly one day became seriously mentally ill. I have cared for her in moments of seizures - written to her consultant to get her medication correctly adjusted and just generally given my all to her. Do Unum think for one moment I could do this if I was suffering any form of what they are accusing me of. They have made me financially stretched to an appalling limitand made me to feel like a common criminal. But they seem to forget I will not give up until I( have some form of justice. This web site has indeed proven what I believe all along - that Unum are a bunch of crooks who will stop at nothing. How the government can allow them to continue doing what they do. Well I have my opinions on that one. Every web site I have investigated and they have been many show this company for what they are. Will someone please look at this and get me the justice I deserve for my beloved husband who has slogged his insides out to maintain any standard of living for us - despite having had a heart attack in 2005.
